Anil Kumble To Continue As Team India Head Coach
Anil Kumble could be retained as Team India Head Coach, till end of West Indies tour. A report by Mirror says that the Cricket Advisory Committee will most likely ask Indian captain Mr. Kohli to put aside his differences with the coach. Currently, Indian cricket team in the United Kingdom is playing in the Champions Trophy and after the tournament, will be touring West Indies from 23rd June to 9th July. Reportedly, the Cricket Board of Control in India that comprises Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, is looking up for a new coach in order to replace Kumble after a rift between the captain and Anil Kumble.
The board’s Cricket Advisory Committee have been given the task of deciding the next Indian cricket coach as per the report revealed on Thursday, the board wants to continue with Kumble as team India head coach. PTI cite CK Khanna (president of the BCCI) saying, “I have written a letter to the secretary asking him to defer the recruitment process till June 26 when BCCI’s SGM will be held. At this point in time, it will not be prudent to carry on with the process when India is playing a tournament.”
Indian Express report clarified Khanna’s comments and quoted a BCCI official as saying, “BCCI president CK Khanna has suggested that as Champions Trophy is still on, it will be not feasible to take decision on Indian team coach now. The Champions Trophy final will get over on 18th whereas Indian team is leaving for West Indies on 20th. There is no time left at the same time if CAC picks a new coach he may not join Indian team. So it’s better to extend Kumble contract for one more series.”
A top Resource said “The CAC has bought some time for Kumble and ensured he is not ignominiously removed after India’s run in the Champions Trophy. He will travel with the team to West Indies. It’s a short tour so there shouldn’t be any problems,” “Kohli is basically being asked to ‘adjust’ for a while more.”
