On September 22, Tamil Nadu’s CM was admitted to Apollo grumbling from fever and dehydration but unexpectedly, wedged under a cardiac attack on Sunday evening. On 5 december, Jayalalitha sustained to be very critical and she was kept under extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and life support systems. Finally, only 68 years old Amma passed away at 11.30pm.
Being administered under resuscitation (CPR), the honourable chief minister was granted ECMO support which is the most advanced treatment currently accessible internationally. In order to see her deteriorated condition while she was diagnosed with a severe respiratory infection, Specialists from Delhi’s AIIMS hospital were called up. Not only this, pulmonary expert from London were also flown in for the consults.
Apollo Hospitals Statements
Every member of the Apollo Hospitals family, the clinicians, the nursing and paramedical staff endeavors so hard to save her life by providing the highest standards of care to the beloved chief minister. They stated, “It is with indescribable grief we announce the sad demise of our esteemed honourable chief minister of Tamil Nadu Puratchi Thalavi Amma at 11.30pm today (5.12.2016)”. In order to improve her condition, she was shifted from the advanced critical care unit to the high dependency unit. Under the close supervision of their expert panel of specialists, health and vitals continued to improved but now she is no more. “We join the nation and the people of Tamil Nadu in deeply mourning her loss.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted
India’s Prime Minister expressed his grief by saying, “Deeply saddened at the passing away of Selvi Jayalalithaa. Her demise has left a huge void in Indian politics. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Tamil Nadu in this hour of grief. May the Almighty grant them the strength to bear this irreparable loss with courage and fortitude.” He also affirmed, “Jayalalithaa ji’s connect with citizens, concern for welfare of the poor, the women and marginalized will always be a source of inspiration.”
Jayalalithaa entered films during her lifetime
Only when she was 16 years old, Amma entered into film industry. Not only this, she made her debut as lead actress in a Kannada film. Along with this, she was so admired in the Tamil films where she starred as the heroine in MGR’s “Ayirathil Oruvan.” Due to super hit films, she gained so popularity among the fans. In more than 140 films which were released in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi and English, she acted so well.
Jayalalithaa’s Journey from Movie Star to Political Queen
In 1982, she took a formal entry into politics where she was induct into AIADMK by her mentor and former co-star MGR. Not only this, she was given key responsibilities from where she learnt lessons in welfare politics. After the death of MGR in 1987, she took alleged of the entire party and became chief minister in 1991. But unfortunately, her political life was marred by corruption allegations.
Panneerselvam is now Tamil Nadu CM
Two hours after the proclamation of Jayalalithaa’s death, her 65 year old loyalist, Panneerselvam was sworn in as a new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu by Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao. At a sombre Ceremony at the Raj Bhawan, Panneerselvam took oath to serve the people of Tamil Nadu. In his earlier life, he belongs to the Thevar community and was a son of a “poor farmer” and a “humble man who was known for his modesty”.
It is not surprising fact as it is the fourth time in his career to be stepped as a leader.
- Firstly in September 2001, where he acted as the interim chief minister for six months. It was the time when in the Tansi land deal case, Jayalalithaa was disqualified by the Supreme Court.
- Secondly again in September 2014, when Jayalalithaa was sentenced to four years in jail after a Bangalore court.
- Thirdly, now when she was admitted to Apollo Hospital on 22 september under the treatment subsequent to fever and dehydration.
